IRS May Allow Form 8955-SSA Submissions Unsigned

June 13, 2012 – Highly placed IRS and Treasury officials have reportedly indicated that pending guidance will allow submission of Form 5558, Application for Extension of Time to File Certain Employee Plan Returns, without a signature, when applying for an extension of time to file Form 8955-SSA, Annual Registration Statement Identifying Separated Participants With Deferred Vested Benefits. A retirement industry source reports that these officials have indicated that this guidance will be issued before the end of July. July 31 is the deadline for calendar-year plans with such separated participants to either file Form 8955-SSA or submit Form 5558 seeking a filing extension.

The option for no signatures already exists for submitting a request for a filing extension for Form 5500, Annual Return/Report of Employee Benefit Plan. Watch this Ascensus Latest News for more information as it becomes available.
